Korea U20s clinch promotion with Sihwan hat-trick

Si Hwan's hat-trick powered Korea to a 5-4 victory over Croatia, securing their promotion to Division I Group B for the 2025 IIHF World Championship.

A hard-fought contest

The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams trading blows throughout the game. Korea took an early lead through Si Hwan in the first period, but Croatia responded with two goals of their own to take the lead going into the second period.

Si Hwan levelled the score early in the second period, and Korea regained the lead shortly after through a goal from Kim Junwoo. However, Croatia once again fought back to tie the game at 3-3 in the third period.

With just minutes remaining, Si Hwan completed his hat-trick to give Korea the lead for good. Croatia pulled their goalie in the final minutes in an attempt to tie the game, but Korea held on for the victory.

The victory was a special moment for Korea, who have been working hard to improve their ice hockey program in recent years. Promotion to Division I Group B is a significant achievement, and it will give the team a chance to compete against some of the best U20 teams in the world.
