Willie Calhoun capped off a remarkable performance with a dramatic walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning, propelling the Los Angeles Angels to a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.
Calhoun, who had previously hit a solo home run in the third inning, stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the 10th. With a 1-1 count, he launched a 92-mph fastball deep into the right field seats, sending the Angels dugout and home crowd into a frenzy.
The home run was Calhoun's first walk-off hit of the season and extended his hitting streak to seven games. It also marked the Angels' second walk-off win in as many nights.
Calhoun's heroics overshadowed a strong performance by Cubs starter Justin Steele, who allowed just one run on three hits in six innings. However, the Cubs' bullpen faltered in the late innings, allowing two runs to score in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game.
With the victory, the Angels improved to 46-42 on the season and moved into third place in the American League West division. The Cubs, meanwhile, dropped to 43-45 and remain in fourth place in the National League Central division.
