Esperance de Tunis secured a famous victory over their bitter rivals Etoile du Sahel in the 2022/23 CAF Champions League with a pulsating 2-1 triumph.
The game lived up to its billing as a classic encounter between two of Tunisia’s most decorated teams, with both sides enjoying spells of dominance.
Esperance settled quicker into the match and took the lead after 15 minutes through Hamdou El Houni. The visitors responded well to the setback though, and levelled matters just after the half-hour mark thanks to Riadh Benayad.
The second half was just as entertaining as the first, with both teams going in search of the winning goal. It was Esperance who would eventually find it, with Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane netting the match winner in the 75th minute.
The victory sees Esperance move top of Group C, while Etoile du Sahel remain in third place. The two teams will meet again in the reverse fixture on Matchday 6, with another captivating encounter expected.
